I’m Ready for a Nap! Where to Rest at Disney

Phew! Did you know that you can walk close to 8.2 miles a day at the Disney Parks? That’s a ton! I don’t know about you but I could definitely use some rest. I always am looking for a ride, shaded spot, or show to relax and cool off in, especially during the summer months…and especially if we are trying to make it until fireworks! Check out my top 2 locations at each park to grab a quick break….

Magic Kingdom

While Magic Kingdom may not be the largest park, you will definitely get the most miles on your shoes here! We tend to make numerous circles throughout the day.

First place to rest a minute is at the parades. Disney parades down Main Street USA can last for up to 30 minutes, but factor in the time to stake your claim to a spot as well, you can rest for up to an hour or more (great for sleeping babies in the stroller). The only downside to this one is that it may not be in the shade, so don’t forget water or stop at the Ice Cream Parlor first to cool down a bit.

Second resting spot is on a ride- the Peoplemover. You get to side a relax for a few minutes as you get a tour of Tomorrowland. Again, outdoor attraction for some of the time but the breeze makes it bearable.

Other ideas: Hall of Presidents, Carousel of Progress, any dining reservations

Hollywood Studios

Now if you are like us you are running to Star Wars for early hours so by lunchtime you are in need of a break, and possibly some coffee.

Both of my resting suggestions at Hollywood Studios are live shows. First is the Frozen Sing Along… if you have girls…enough said! But Elsa tends to make it a little chilly in there so its a great spot to cool off. The other option is Beauty and the Beast. While this one is an outdoor theater, it is completely shaded so it still provides an escape from the heat and a place to sit for about 20-30 minutes.

Other ideas: Lightening McQueen, The Little Mermaid (Currently closed), and any dining locations

Animal Kingdom

Now Animal Kingdom is the hardest place to find escape from the heat. Fun Fact: Did you know the temperature in the Animal Kingdom easily averages 10 degrees hotter than any other place on Disney property due to the plants creating a "rain forest" effect? So yea…just be prepared to be hot and hydrate!

However, there are still a couple places you can relax for a few minutes. First is the Festival of the Lion King. This indoor theater gives a nice reprieve from the sun for the 30 minute celebration. Finding Nemo, which is currently closed as they revamp the show, is also a cool indoor theater providing some escape.

Another location, while not indoors, is the Boneyard. This is essentially a HUGE playground for the kids, but it gives the parents a chance to relax a bit if they would like.

Epcot

In my opinion Epcot is the most laid back of the parks. Without having many rides and a large portion of the park devoted to the World Showcase, there are plenty of places to grab a seat for a few minutes. My first suggestion is really any of the countries you want to sit in and look around a bit more (and maybe grab a snack, especially if it is during one of the festivals)

My other suggestion is a ride- Journey into the Imagination with Figment. Now, be forewarned this ride has a fairly annoying song that is bound to get stuck in your head… but it is entertaining for the kids and gives you a chance to sit along for the ride.

Other ideas: Turtle Talk with Crush, Spaceship Earth

Going to Disney is a fabulous vacation and the parks are a magical experience but don’t forget, you are on VACATION!! Don’t run yourself ragged if you don’t have to. I always suggest at least one if not two extra days in your trip just to enjoy the resort. Lay at the pool, participate in some of the family activities throughout the day and just enjoy the WHOLE experience. Doing 4 days straight of early hours and late nights just makes everyone cranky!
