What Mom Looks For When Choosing Vacation

I'm a mom of 3 kids between 5 and 9… planning a vacation for everyone is no easy task! And don’t forget to factor in the oldest child (my husband) who also needs to be happy while on our trip. Check out what I look for when scoping resorts!

For My Family

My Top 3 Look Fors:

  1. Room size- do they have a room that can fit 5 or will we need to request connecting rooms? With a larger family it is always a challenge to find a room big enough for all of us. When I look at resorts I see if there is a family suite option and if not, are connecting rooms a guarantee. A lot of resorts will not guarantee that rooms will connect and you mind end up next door or across the hall, which just doesn’t work for us.

  2. Activities throughout the day/surrounding locations- is there enough to keep them occupied? My girls are ACTIVE! They love to swim, play games, and do sports. In order for us to spend time at the resort there needs to be a lot of onsite activities. Games by the pool are a must!

  3. Dining options- is there something for the picky eaters? While we have lucked out and our girls are not super picky eaters…they still are not what I would consider to be adventurous either. We always make sure the resorts have the kids menu basics- chicken fingers, pasta, and burgers.

Myself

My Top 3 Look Fors:

  1. Kids club- is there a kids club on site that will help us get some alone time? If we are traveling to an all inclusive resort or on a cruise I always look for a kids club. I used to be the mom that thought “oh i’ll never want to send me kids there”…fast forward a few years and OMG what a silly thought that was! Not only do the kids have a blast BUT we get free time too!! Win-Win in my book,

  2. Spa-what’s on the menu? I am a spa snob! I LOVE to be pampered! Massage, wraps, you name it! Not every vacation will have an opportunity to visit the spa but if there is…you better believe it is my first reservation once I arrive. I’ve even talked my hubby into a couple visits with me.

  3. Beach and a book - this is how I rejuvenate my soul…enough said!

For Him

My Top 3 Look Fors:

  1. Golf course- included? Greens fee? While my husband is not an avid golfer, I know some men who make it a non-negotiable. Believe it or not there are several resorts with onsite golf courses, and if not on site, there is one near by that can be included in your resort fees.

  2. Top shelf liquors- do they have what he likes or is it generic liquors? Now this is a bit of a must for my husband. He loves the fruity pool bar drinks during the day but he likes to enjoy a good Old Fashion at night. Some of these you just can’t make with cheap liquor. Again, this is more of an all inclusive/cruising option, but definitely one to consider.

  3. Sports- can he watch the game? If I ever plan a vacation during football season, this is a dealbreaker! If he cannot watch the games on Saturday he acts like a child (don’t tell him I told you that) and he spends his day glued to his phone…which hopefully we have wifi included.

While everyone in the family requires something different, it is part of my job as a vacation planner to get to know you and what your family wants/needs for their trip so everyone has a great time!
