Do you recognize this couple?

Have you ever woken up one morning and not recognized who you saw in the mirror? Over the past year with all of the ups and downs it has been very hard to define who “me” is, but I am determined to spend 2021 trying to remember.

This picture was taken during our engagement session 11 years ago ...since then life has taken over- work, 3 kids, sports, friends, etc. I almost don’t recognize this couple anymore. We used to spend evenings playing games and going on walks, now we’re lucky if we can stay awake long enough to watch a TV show because we are tired…just tired!

During quarantine, while we were still working from home (both teaching from the same house…eek! a little tense) we realized that we had not spent that much time together in a VERY long time. We got back to spending time going on walks, a little different with the kids in tow but still time spent together, and we weren’t as tired at night so we got to spend some more quality time. When we took a step back from our crazy reality, we realized we never took time for us.

I would like to say “we” but I don’t want to speak for him, so “I” have made it a goal of 2021 to be intentional about spending time together…alone time. One of the reasons I love planning getaways is helping people reconnect. When you make time for each other- whether that is date night once a month or a long weekend away, your connection is renewed. My goal for us in 2021 is to reconnect so we can recognize this couple again. Just because life progresses doesn’t mean you have to lose yourself in the process.

So, to start off the year I have booked us a trip for our anniversary (shh! don’t tell him, its a surprise!) so we can take time away from work stress, parent stress, and just the hustle and bustle of our normal life, to celebrate our 11 year anniversary AND I have decided that for at least 2 nights a week…work will have to wait (sorry guys!)

With that being said….I’m out! Tonight belongs to us!
